Choosing a private banker in Baden, Aargau: employer shares, meetings and a first conversation
To choose a private bank in Baden, start by asking who would look after your wealth and where your meetings would take place: in Baden, in Zurich or remotely. Then come the parts of your situation your banker needs to understand: shares or options from your employer, a recent move to the region for a job, or a company you run. This page shows the institutions whose Baden office we have verified and the questions to ask in a first conversation.

Choosing a private bank in Baden
According to the City of Baden, Baden, in the canton of Aargau, had 23,642 inhabitants, around 3,100 companies and over 30,000 people employed (as at January 2026). The city names ABB, Ansaldo, Axpo, General Electric, Hitachi Energy and the cantonal hospital as its largest employers; at the same time, 90 per cent of the companies based there have fewer than 20 employees (figures published by the city, accessed on 20 October 2026). We take these names from the city to describe the local setting; they imply no link with AlpineCompare or with the institutions shown here. This page covers situations that are common in that setting: part of your pay comes in shares or options from your employer, you moved to the region for a job, you run a small company, or you live in Baden and work in Zurich.
This page is for people who live in Switzerland, in Baden or the surrounding region, including those of another nationality, and for people preparing to move to the canton of Aargau. We wrote it primarily for available financial assets of more than one million Swiss francs. This figure is a guide, not an entry requirement: each institution sets its own criteria for taking on new clients. For an overview of the selection criteria, see our page on Swiss private banks.
The institutions with an office in Baden
The list below shows, in alphabetical order, the institutions in our database for which we have verified an office serving private clients in Baden; as of our last check there are two, a cantonal bank and a universal bank. Being an AlpineCompare partner changes neither the order of the list nor whether an institution appears in it.
Institutions with a private-client office in Baden, in alphabetical order
- AKB
- UBS
This list does not cover every institution active in Baden: it covers those in our database whose presence in Baden is published by the institution itself. The information published on institutions is indicative and must be confirmed with the institution concerned.
The canton's own cantonal bank, Aargauische Kantonalbank, states that it has 32 branches in the canton of Aargau and the Olten-Gösgen-Gäu region, with its head office in Aarau. The list also links it to Baden: its Private Banking page names a head of private banking for the Baden-Wettingen region there, on Bahnhofplatz. We accessed these pages on 21 October 2026.
The UBS branch we recorded is on Badstrasse. Its page lists wealth management among the services offered, alongside services for private clients and for companies; it does not state whether substantial wealth is looked after locally or by a team in another office. We accessed it on 20 October 2026.
Baden and Zurich: where will your meetings take place?
Baden is in the canton of Aargau. For a wider choice of institutions, our page on private banks in Zurich lists those whose Zurich office we have verified, including the universal bank present in Baden.
If you live in Baden and work in Zurich, or the other way round, raise the question of where you will meet early on. Ask whether you can meet your banker in Baden, in Zurich or remotely, and whether the same person looks after you in each case.
The official language of the canton of Aargau is German (§ 71a of the Aargau cantonal constitution). The language of your banking relationship is agreed with the institution and with your banker: if you moved here for a job and would like to work in English, say so at the first contact, and ask in which language you will receive the agreement, statements and reports.
Your situation in Baden, and what to clarify
For several situations linked to the city's economy, here is what is worth clarifying in the first conversation.
| Your situation | What to clarify |
|---|---|
| Shares or options from your employer | The share of these securities in your wealth, which ones you can freely dispose of and which are still vesting or subject to a blocking period, and where they are held: in a bank custody account or with the provider that administers your employer's share plan |
| Moving to the region for a job | The documents needed to open the relationship, the language of your exchanges, the assets remaining in your home country and how long you expect to stay in Switzerland |
| You live in Baden and work in Zurich | Where and when meetings take place, and which office your banker is attached to |
| You run a small company | What belongs to the company and what belongs to your private wealth, and whether one institution would look after both, with one banker or two |
| Retirement with pension capital already paid out | The amount, the payment date and what you expect from the organisation of this capital. Whether to withdraw pension capital is a decision taken beforehand and is not covered on this page |
Our page on your situation sets out, for the whole of Switzerland, what is worth preparing when moving to Switzerland, with pension capital already paid out or after an inheritance.
What matters when choosing a banker in Baden
Here are the criteria to look at when choosing a private banker in Baden, and the question that lets you check each one in a first conversation.
| Criterion | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Who looks after your wealth | Will you be my day-to-day contact, or will my account be handed to a wealth management team, and in which office does it work? |
| Meeting place | Can we meet in Baden, in Zurich or remotely, and does that change who looks after me? |
| Your employer's shares | How do you take into account shares or options from my employer, including those still blocked or held outside your institution? |
| Language of the relationship | In which language will our meetings take place, and in which language will I receive the agreement, statements and reports? |
| How the relationship is organised | How often will we review things together, how can I reach you between meetings, and who stands in for you when you are away? |
These criteria match the questions of the AlpineCompare simulator: your project, the amount involved, your canton, your language and what you expect from your banker.
Different types of institution
In Baden, as elsewhere in Switzerland, a wealth management relationship can be held with a private bank, a universal bank, a cantonal bank or an independent asset manager. What distinguishes these models is explained on our page on types of institution and selection criteria.
If you are considering an independent asset manager, you can check that it appears on the list, published by FINMA, of portfolio managers licensed by FINMA and monitored by a supervisory organisation.
Preparing your first conversation
Before your meeting, you can gather:
- the amount you are thinking of entrusting and what it consists of, separating cash, securities already invested and employer shares;
- for those shares, the dates on which blocked tranches are released and where they are held;
- a list of your assets and accounts outside Switzerland, if you have any;
- your residence permit and proof of address in Switzerland, if you have just moved;
- where you would prefer to meet, in Baden, in Zurich or remotely, and the language you wish to use, spoken and written.
During the conversation, note each banker's answers on the same points: you can then compare several proposals on a common basis.
How AlpineCompare puts you in touch in Baden
AlpineCompare is an introduction service and has no office in Baden. The simulator asks you about your project, the amount involved, your canton of residence, your language and what you expect from your banker. Once your phone number is verified, you obtain a selection of private bankers from our partner institutions, with the option to be put in touch with one of them or to ask to be called back; nothing is passed to any partner until you have confirmed one of these two requests. A banker's direct contact details, where the banker provides them, are shown only after you have confirmed the introduction to that banker or asked that banker to call you back: this confirmation is your agreement to your request being passed to that banker and their institution, which receive it at that moment; AlpineCompare records this agreement and may rely on it with the institution to establish that the relationship arose through its introduction.
For each banker, the selection shows their institution, city and languages, so you can see whether a banker is based in Baden, in Zurich or in another city, and whether they list English among their languages. If you send them a request, that banker and their institution may contact you; the arrangements for a meeting are then agreed with them.
- AlpineCompare is paid by the partner institution, under a business-introduction agreement, when a client it introduced signs a contract with that institution; the service is free for you.
- Only private bankers of partners can be presented to you; institutions without a partnership are described on the site in the same way as the others.
- Remuneration plays no part in the selection of the profiles shown or in their order.
- The selection depends on the partner bankers whose profile matches your request; it may include bankers based in other cities.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to live in Baden to use the simulator?
No. Introductions are offered to private individuals domiciled in Switzerland and to persons preparing to move to Switzerland. Your canton is one of the pieces of information used to put together your selection of bankers.
Why does the list show only two institutions?
It includes only the institutions in our database whose Baden office is published by the institution itself and verified by us; the absence of an institution says nothing about what it offers. Other institutions may be active in Baden or look after clients from Baden from another office, in Zurich for example. Our page on private banks in Zurich lists the institutions whose Zurich office we have verified.
Do shares from my employer count as assets I can entrust?
They are part of your financial assets, but not all of them are available in the same way. Distinguish the securities you can freely dispose of from those still vesting, such as restricted stock units, or subject to a blocking period, and say where they are held. Your banker can then understand what can be entrusted today and what will follow later. The plan's terms are set by your employer; their tax effects are a question for a tax adviser.
Can I work with a private banker in Baden in English?
It depends on the institution and the banker. The selection obtained with the simulator shows the languages declared by each banker. As the canton's official language is German, also ask in which language you will receive the documents of the relationship.
How much wealth do you need to approach a private bank in Baden?
Each institution sets its own criteria for taking on new clients; there is no amount common to all institutions. Think in terms of available financial assets, meaning cash and securities, rather than total wealth, which includes, for example, the value of a home or of a company. To find private bankers from our partner institutions who meet your criteria, complete the simulator.
Does AlpineCompare have an office in Baden?
No. AlpineCompare is an online introduction service. Meetings take place with the banker you contact, according to their institution's arrangements.
Are partner institutions given prominence in the list?
No. The list is in alphabetical order, and being an AlpineCompare partner changes neither the order nor whether an institution is listed. The simulator, on the other hand, only presents bankers from partner institutions.
