Choosing a private banker in Yverdon-les-Bains and northern Vaud

To choose a private bank in Yverdon-les-Bains, start from your own situation: what you expect from the relationship, how much of your wealth is tied to your company, the language you want to use, where you want to meet and how the relationship will be looked after. This page lists the institutions whose Yverdon-les-Bains office we have verified, points to the wider choice in Lausanne and sets out the questions to ask depending on your situation.

Yverdon-les-Bains, the main town of northern Vaud

According to the town, Yverdon-les-Bains is the capital of the Jura-Nord vaudois district and the second-largest town in the canton of Vaud. It is home to the Haute École d'Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud (HEIG-VD) and to Y-Parc, a science and technology park. The town also reports that, in 2024, 127 nationalities other than Swiss were represented among its residents.

The official language of the canton of Vaud is French (Vaud cantonal constitution, art. 3). The cantonal bank, Banque Cantonale Vaudoise, says it has close to 60 branches in the canton. If your wealth was built around a company in the region or a career in industry or technology, or if you moved to Switzerland recently, these points matter when choosing a banker.

This page is for people who live in Switzerland, in Yverdon-les-Bains or elsewhere in northern Vaud, or who are preparing to move to Switzerland, and who are considering entrusting substantial financial assets to a private banker. It applies to Swiss nationals and to people of other nationalities living in the region alike. We wrote it primarily for available financial assets of more than one million Swiss francs. This figure is a guide, not an entry requirement: each institution sets its own criteria for taking on new clients. The selection criteria that apply across Switzerland are set out on our page on Swiss private banks.

Institutions with an office in Yverdon-les-Bains

In our database, the choice of verified offices in Yverdon-les-Bains remains limited: as of our last check, we record three institutions serving private clients there, a cantonal bank, a private bank and a universal bank. The list below shows them in alphabetical order. Being an AlpineCompare partner changes neither the order of the list nor whether an institution appears in it.

Institutions with a private-client office in Yverdon-les-Bains, in alphabetical order

  • BCV
  • Piguet Galland
  • UBS

This list does not cover every institution active in Yverdon-les-Bains: it covers those in our database whose presence in Yverdon-les-Bains is published by the institution itself. The information published on institutions is indicative and must be confirmed with the institution concerned.

Banque Cantonale Vaudoise describes its Yverdon-les-Bains branch, on Rue des Remparts, as one of its regional centres of expertise, with advisers for retail, business and private banking clients. Piguet Galland, a private bank whose majority shareholder is Banque Cantonale Vaudoise, publishes an office on Rue de la Plaine; it lists Yverdon-les-Bains among its offices, alongside Geneva, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Lausanne, Neuchâtel and Nyon. The UBS branch on Rue de Neuchâtel lists wealth management among its services.

For a wider choice: Lausanne

The three institutions with an office in Yverdon-les-Bains also publish an office in Lausanne, where our database records more institutions; they are listed on our page on private banks in Lausanne. Our database records no other office in northern Vaud.

An office in Lausanne says little on its own about how the relationship will work from Yverdon-les-Bains. Ask each banker where you would meet, how often, and how much of the contact can take place by phone or video call.

What matters when choosing a banker from northern Vaud

Here are the criteria to look at, with the question that lets you check each one in a first conversation.

What matters when choosing a banker from northern Vaud
CriterionQuestion to ask
Meeting placeWill our meetings take place in Yverdon-les-Bains, in Lausanne, at another of your offices or remotely?
LanguageCan we work in English, spoken and written, and who will answer me in English when you are away?
Company and private wealthIf I run a company, how do you separate what belongs to it from my private wealth?
ContinuityWho will be my contact, who takes over if they are away or change roles, and how often will we review things together?
Working with your other advisersHow do you work with my fiduciary, my notary or my tax adviser, if I have one?

If you live elsewhere in northern Vaud, at the foot of the Jura or on the shore of Lake Neuchâtel, ask early where meetings would take place.

These criteria match the questions of the AlpineCompare simulator: your project, the amount involved, your canton, your language and what you expect from your banker.

A few situations in northern Vaud and the questions they raise

The examples below are illustrations: they do not describe real clients and do not call for a standard answer. They show which points to clarify with a private banker, depending on your situation.

A few situations in northern Vaud and the questions they raise
Your situationQuestions to discuss
You founded or built a technology company, for example at Y-Parc, and the sale of all or part of your shares is being prepared or has taken placeWhich part of your wealth remains tied to the company, and which part will become available? How does your banker coordinate the timetable with your fiduciary or lawyer?
You run an SME in the region or have handed it overHow do you separate what belongs to the company from your private wealth? If the proceeds of a sale arrive in stages, how is the relationship organised in the meantime?
Your family recently moved to the region, for example for a job with a company or a universityWhich documents are needed to open the relationship? How are accounts or assets left abroad taken into account, and in which language will you be looked after?
You are preparing to pass your wealth on to your childrenWho in the family should be involved in the conversations, and when? How does the banker work with your notary?
Pension capital has already been paid out to youWhich outgoings should this capital cover, and over what period? How is the relationship organised once the funds are in the account?

Whether or not to withdraw pension capital is a separate decision, taken before the payout and with a pensions specialist. Vaud tax questions, for example on wealth or inheritance, also belong with specialists: ask the institution whether it handles them with its own teams or works with your fiduciary or tax adviser.

Different types of institution

In Yverdon-les-Bains, as elsewhere in Switzerland, a wealth management relationship can be held with a private bank, a universal bank, a cantonal bank or an independent asset manager. What distinguishes these models is explained on our page on types of institution and selection criteria.

If you are considering an independent asset manager, you can check that it appears on the list, published by FINMA, of portfolio managers licensed by FINMA and monitored by a supervisory organisation.

Preparing your first conversation

Before a first meeting, a few points prepared in advance make the conversation more useful:

  • the amount you are thinking of entrusting and what it consists of: cash, securities already invested, the proceeds of a sale;
  • if you run a company, what belongs to it and what belongs to your private wealth;
  • what you expect from the relationship: management of your investments, organising capital you have received, preparing to pass on your wealth;
  • your timetable, for example the date on which funds will become available;
  • your residence permit and the date you arrived, if your move to Switzerland is recent;
  • the contact details of your other advisers: fiduciary, notary, tax adviser;
  • the language you wish to use, and how you prefer to meet: in person, remotely, or both.

Then note each banker's answers on the same points: you can compare several proposals on a common basis.

How AlpineCompare puts you in touch from Yverdon-les-Bains

AlpineCompare is an introduction service and has no office in Yverdon-les-Bains or elsewhere in northern Vaud. The simulator asks you about your project, the amount involved, your canton of residence, your language and what you expect from your banker. Once your phone number is verified, you obtain a selection of private bankers from our partner institutions, with the option to be put in touch with one of them or to ask to be called back; nothing is passed to any partner until you have confirmed one of these two requests. A banker's direct contact details, where the banker provides them, are shown only after you have confirmed the introduction to that banker or asked that banker to call you back: this confirmation is your agreement to your request being passed to that banker and their institution, which receive it at that moment; AlpineCompare records this agreement and may rely on it with the institution to establish that the relationship arose through its introduction.

For each banker, the selection shows their institution, city and languages, so you can see whether a banker is based in Yverdon-les-Bains, in Lausanne or in another city. If you send them a request, that banker and their institution may contact you; the arrangements for a meeting, in person or remotely, are then agreed with them.

  • AlpineCompare is paid by the partner institution, under a business-introduction agreement, when a client it introduced signs a contract with that institution; the service is free for you.
  • Only private bankers of partners can be presented to you; institutions without a partnership are described on the site in the same way as the others.
  • Remuneration plays no part in the selection of the profiles shown or in their order.
  • The selection depends on the partner bankers whose profile matches your request; it may include bankers based in other cities.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to live in Yverdon-les-Bains to use the simulator?

No. Introductions are offered to private individuals domiciled in Switzerland and to persons preparing to move to Switzerland. Your canton of residence is one of the pieces of information used to put together your selection of bankers.

Can I work with a private banker in Yverdon-les-Bains in English, without speaking French?

It depends on the institution and the banker. The official language of the canton of Vaud is French (art. 3 of the Vaud cantonal constitution), so the language of your exchanges is worth clarifying from the outset. The selection obtained with the simulator shows the languages declared by each banker. In any case, confirm the language of your spoken and written exchanges at the first contact.

Can a private banker meet me in Yverdon-les-Bains?

It depends on the institution and the banker; we cannot confirm it in advance. All three institutions in our database with a presence in Yverdon-les-Bains publish an office there, and the selection obtained with the simulator shows each banker's city. At the first contact, ask where meetings would take place, how often, and how much of the relationship can be handled remotely.

Are there other private banks in northern Vaud?

In Yverdon-les-Bains, the list includes one private bank, Piguet Galland, alongside a cantonal bank and a universal bank. Our database records no other office in northern Vaud. Banque Cantonale Vaudoise says it has close to 60 branches in the canton, and other institutions may be present in the region without our having verified it. For a wider choice, our database records more institutions in Lausanne.

How much wealth do you need to approach a private bank in Yverdon-les-Bains?

Each institution sets its own criteria for taking on new clients; there is no amount common to all institutions. Think in terms of available financial assets, meaning cash and securities: the value of your company or your home is not part of them, even though it counts in your total wealth. To find private bankers from our partner institutions who meet your criteria, complete the simulator.

Does AlpineCompare have an office in Yverdon-les-Bains?

No. AlpineCompare is an online introduction service. Meetings take place with the banker you contact, according to their institution's arrangements.

Are partner institutions given prominence in the list?

No. The list is in alphabetical order, and being an AlpineCompare partner changes neither the order nor whether an institution is listed. The simulator, on the other hand, only presents bankers from partner institutions.
